Our featured outfitters have summer trip openings. Call or e-mail
one of them now to make your reservation.
There are more than 150 miles of trails in the 235,000+ acre Flattops Wilderness. Take your pick as to where you want to go.
You don't have to stick to the trails. They can take you to places where you will not see any people for as long as you want to stay. Total seclusion is one of the options.
Our outfitters have traveled this country for many years, and would love to have the opportunity to show it to you.
Once you're "on top", the Flattops Wilderness lives up to its name. The traveling is easy, and you can see FOREVER.
Be sure to bring your camera and lots of film. You'll want to re-live this summer vacation over and over.
Bailey Lake, Peltier Lake, Elk Lakes, Island Lakes, Deer Lake, Shingle Peak Lake, Rainbow Lake and the Marvines.
Wranglers will take care of the details so you can concentrate on the natural beauty of this vast wilderness. Elevations range from 7,500 ft at the valley floor to 12,000 ft on mountain peaks. Beautiful mountain wildflowers are plentiful.
Summer trips in the Flattops Wilderness are best taken from July through August. During this time the weather is generally good and wildlife viewing is excellent. Huge elk herds move from the lower elevation calving areas to "the top" around July 1st.
Fishing opportunities abound. You can fly fish or use a spinning reel to catch 3 different popular species of trout: cutthroat, rainbow and brook, better known as "brookies". Fishing the river, streams, beaver ponds, and the pristine high mountain lakes in the wilderness is an experience you won't want to miss.
Flat Tops Wilderness outfitters can offer you a long trip, short trip, or a progressive trip into the area. All are customized especially for you. Experienced and inexperienced riders are all welcome -
they cater to all your needs, including whatever you require for your children.
They also have horses that will babysit your 5 year old child!
If you choose a progressive trip, you can stay in one spot and relax or you can move camp every day. What you want is what you get. Everyone who wants to do "hands on" with the horses is welcome to do so
with most outfitters. If you want to saddle your own horse or participate in the packing experience,
they can show you the "do's and don'ts" involved in mountain travel.
Here's an optional adventure available to you. You can spend a few hours exploring Spring Cave, also known
as Southfork Cave. This natural cave is over 1/4 mile long, and the mouth is just a short hike from Southfork campground.
This guided side trip is an awesome experience.
